Catherine's Yearly Yuletide Carol Concert Honours Unsung Heroes

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The large audience will enjoy a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as award-winning actors.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The central message of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the concert.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers supported by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been assisted by the organisation, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
